Lots of wildlife; Visiting Whitehorse

We crossed into The Yukon on Saturday and drove to Haines Junction. We saw so much wildlife around that area from the highway! A herd of elk, wild sheep, and bison. Each time we saw them I pulled off the highway to get some good pics:

Next, we visited Whitehorse. Whitehorse is the capital of The Yukon and has a population of around 30,000 people. I really enjoyed this town. There was live music at a food truck festival. I met a Ukrainian man working on his food truck who had a Starlink dish bolted to his roof. He explained that he just bolted it down, didn’t change any settings, and it always works great, even when driving down the road! I did learn that if you’re going to do this, it’s best to disable the motor in the Gen 2 Starlink so that it’s not moving the dish around all the time to compensate for the motion of the vehicle. There’s a setting for that in the Starlink App.

We took a detour off the Alaska highway to check out the little town of Atlin, described as “The Switzerland of the North” because of its beautiful mountain views. You can only drive here by driving south from The Yukon into British Columbia, and we’ll have to drive back north to The Yukon when we leave. Last night we camped in the forest right next to the lake. There were too many trees above the van for the Starlink dish to get a signal, but that’s no problem! I just ran the cable from the van to the lakeshore. Lakeshores are great for Starlink because they give you a great view of the sky:
